TikTok has deactivated around 780,000 accounts belonging to users under 16 years old in Indonesia as part of child protection efforts, the government announced (14/04).
Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid said the measure reflects early progress in safeguarding children in the digital space.
The action is part of the implementation of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 (PP TUNAS), which regulates electronic system governance for child protection.
TikTok Submits Compliance Commitment to Government
The government noted that TikTok is the first platform to report enforcement under the regulation as of April 10, 2026.
The company has submitted a compliance commitment letter to the Indonesian government and published a minimum age requirement of 16 through its Help Center.
“TikTok telah menyerahkan surat komitmen kepatuhan kepada Pemerintah Republik Indonesia, mempublikasikan batas usia minimum 16 tahun melalui Help Center, serta berkomitmen melakukan pembaruan berkala atas implementasinya,” Meutya said.
Authorities Call on Other Platforms to Report Actions
The minister urged other platforms to disclose the number of accounts that have been handled or taken down.
“Kita harapkan juga muncul dari platform lainnya untuk segera menyampaikan jumlah akun yang sudah dilakukan penanganan atau takedown,” she said.
She emphasized that compliance with PP TUNAS is mandatory for all electronic system providers operating in Indonesia.
Roblox Not Yet Considered Compliant
Roblox has introduced global adjustments and new features from its headquarters in the United States.
However, the government stated these measures do not fully meet the requirements of PP TUNAS.
“Masih ada loophole (celah) yang membolehkan komunikasi atau chat dengan orang tak dikenal,” Meutya said.
Authorities confirmed that Roblox cannot yet be categorized as compliant and its proposal has not been accepted.
Several Platforms Declare Full Compliance
Other platforms, including X, Bigo Live, and Meta, have stated full compliance with PP TUNAS.
The ministry said it will continue monitoring and evaluating platforms and will take firm action against those that do not meet the regulation.
